Hello and welcome to the web site for the 2d Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery. The purpose of this web page is to provide information on the history of the regiment and to serve as a communication point for the Company I, 2d Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery Regiment re-enactment group members

Our mission is as follows:

  • Understand the political, economic, and religious forces at work in Litchfield County, Connecticut and the state of Connecticut throughout the War of the Rebellion (a.k.a. The American Civil War, War Between the States, and many others),
  • Educate the general public about the military role of the 2d Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery Regiment,
  • Provide additional research for educators, genealogists, families of descendants, and military history scholars
  • Participate in living history demonstrations, encampments, and specific battle reenactments.

The current 2d Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery portrays the unit after it was pulled from the defense of Washington D.C. in June 1864 to bolster the infantry of General Grant'sArmy of the Potomac. Find out more about us here.

The 2d Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery history runs from 1862, when it first mustered as the 19th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry to the end of the war in 1865
